Light fades with the square of distance. If one removes the temporality the fading becomes cubically proportional.
This means that it gets dark very easily, and that most places are dark.
In the hold it is very dark indeed, which is good as it makes it harder to make out the cargo. Even when unseen, though, one can always hear them and the sound they make is fearsome even only in memory.
The cargo consists in what you people might call 'souls,' and every one us screaming.
